Michael’s Bio
I’ve always been a drummer. I came to the earth swinging a pair of Promarks. Even though I used to create makeshift drum kits out of whatever was handy (boxes, buckets, pans, garbage can lids) I didn’t get to play a real drum till sixth grade; which I had to earn by doing time in a summer school band program. By seventh grade I got myself a pawnshop piece meal drum kit (incomplete) which I paid for myself. Then I continued to work and practice, buying the rest of the pieces as I could afford them. By ninth grade I got my first paying gig. I was hired by the engineer of Ninth West Studios to play some sessions for a client of his.
I continued to practice, taking advantage of whatever venue I could play, judging comps, school activities, etc. Getting my name out there to see if I could get a solid career built up. But alas; my dreams of becoming a major player in the industry were sacked by a beautiful girl. That kind of crap just sneaks up on you. So here I am 20 years or so later, still married. Ironically it was the drums that hooked us up. She would sit outside my window and listen to me practice. She was too shy to come in and introduce herself, so she had my sister do it after about six months.
I worked on projects at a local level to stay close to my family, till I was able to coincide with Jon Dansie. I knew the instant I saw him he was a guitar player, but I asked him anyway just to verify. I let him know I was drumming and after some time he invited me to try out for his band. I did and I’m still playing for the Jon Dansie Band because THESE GUYS CAN PLAY!
